Join the National Broadcasting Society

reporterInterested in a career in the broadcast industry? TU’s chapter of the National Broadcasting Society is looking for new members. Dr. John Turner (EMF) is the faculty advisor for the group.  Here is more information from Dr. Turner:

Among the benefits of joining are:

  • Attending a national convention at a discounted rate
  • Entering your work in a national competition with other college students
  • Meeting and networking with industry professionals in radio, TV, and film
  • Being inducted (if you meet requirements) into Alpha Epsilon Rho–the only national honorary society for students in electronic media and mass communication
  • Showing your leadership skills by running for an officer position. All positions are open for the coming academic year. 
  • Yearly dues range from $10 to $50 (TBD) depending on the number of members.

MCCS Networking Fair

Networking fair flyer (1)What: Towson’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) group is holding its annual networking fair for all Mass Communication and Communication Studies students. This event is an opportunity to network with working professionals at roughly 20 companies such as Maroon PR, imre, Fox 45 WBFF, and Abel Communications. Students should bring resumes and wear business-casual attire.

When: April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

JDay Social2Pro Tips from the News Pros — A panel of recent journalism/new media alums will share how they got their jobs and what it’s like working in journalism today. You will have a chance to sit down with the alums informally and get advice. This is a great opportunity for first hand knowledge of what it’s like to be a young working journalist in the 21st century. This panel will be on Wednesday, April 19 in UU Potomac Room from 5:30 – 7 p.m.

 

 

 

JDay SocialPress Freedom in the Trump Era — Jeff Ballou is an editor at Al Jazeera Media Network and the newly elected president of the National Press Club. He will be talking about press freedom and the challenges journalists are facing in the Trump era. This event is Thursday, April 27 at 7 p.m. in the CA Recital Hall.

Summer Internship Opportunity

LoRes BC DigestThe Baltimore County Department of Aging (BCDA) has an opportunity for an intern to write articles for BCDA’s newspaper, Senior Digest. The Senior Digest is a subscriber based newspaper published by the BCDA.
 
Prospective candidates should:
  • have the ability to write stories based on research, information provided as well as on-site interviews.  
  • have their own transportation
  • be a junior or senior

Sports Reporting Opportunity

Towson Sports Network (TSN) is looking for an on-air sports reporter to cover both men’s and women’s TU lacrosse teams. The right individual would have to be at every home game to file 2 reports a game, do Skype interviews and go to practices every so often.  It pays $60 a week. Face Time With The Pros

natasIf you’re interested in going into TV News, the folks at The Philip Merrill School of Journalism (UMD College Park) are holding an event called Face Time with the Pros on Saturday, March 4 at 8:30 a.m. The day long event will include hands-on seminars with TV News industry professionals. The cost is $15 and it includes lunch. You must RSVP by Feb. 20.

MCCS Scholarships For Fall 2017
